The good news: humidity drops noticeably behind it, and by Sunday and Monday we’re looking at genuinely pleasant, low-humidity late-summer air across the state. Today is the transition day — not a washout, but don’t be shocked by a passing shower or a distant clap of thunder, especially west of I-95.

• Early morning (now–9 AM): Patchy low clouds, some fog in spots, and a few light showers lingering, mainly far northeast and north-central MD.

Lows tonight near 57° with lingering shower chances and patchy fog settling into the valleys. Bring a jacket for the lake this evening.

Allegany County (Cumberland): High around 81°, northwest winds near 5 mph, 40% chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm through the day. Lows tonight near 61° with shower chances continuing into the evening before clouds break up.

Northern & Central Maryland

Washington County (Hagerstown): High near 80°, north winds around 6 mph. A slight chance of a rain shower this morning, transitioning to a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon (around 20%). Lows near 61° tonight.

Frederick County: High around 81°, north winds near 5 mph, only a 17% slight chance of a rain shower — mostly a dry day here. Lows near 62° tonight under partly cloudy skies.

Carroll County: Sharing Frederick’s numbers — high near 81°, slight rain shower chance around 17%, low near 62° overnight with clearing.

Baltimore Metro

This is the zone to watch most closely today — mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon (18%), and it’s the southern tier of Maryland that sits closest to where NWS Wakefield has flagged a Marginal Risk of an isolated strong-to-severe storm (damaging wind gusts the main concern) later today. Upper Eastern Shore

Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot & Caroline Counties: High near 83° with a slight chance of rain showers (20%) giving way to partly sunny skies later. North winds around 5 mph. Low near 64° tonight, partly cloudy.

Lower Eastern Shore

Sunday brings a bump in surf to 2-3 feet and rip current risk rising to Moderate, plus a slight chance of showers — good beach day today, be a bit more cautious in the water tomorrow.

Active Hazards

NWS Baltimore/Washington’s Hazardous Weather Outlook does flag an isolated severe thunderstorm as possible for southern portions of the forecast area today — this aligns with the Marginal Risk zone noted above, mainly affecting Southern Maryland and points south. Severe & Flooding Threat

The severe threat today is genuinely low-end for Maryland — most of the Marginal-to-Slight Risk area sits over Virginia, West Virginia, and central VA, with only our southernmost counties brushing the edge of concern. If a storm does organize this afternoon or evening, damaging wind gusts are the primary hazard, with frequent lightning and locally heavy downpours possible. Flash flooding is not a widespread concern today; any heavy rain would be brief and localized. Confidence is moderate that most of central and eastern Maryland stays on the drier side of this system.

Humidity remains elevated through the morning but noticeably eases through the afternoon as the front sags south — a welcome change after a sticky stretch. Winds run out of the north generally 5 to 9 mph statewide today, occasionally gustier along the coast near Ocean City (around 9 mph). Nothing approaching advisory-level wind is expected.

No marine hazards or advisories are in effect for Bay waters today. Winds stay light out of the north, generally under 10 knots, with seas calm to slight. A fine day for boaters, with conditions improving further into Sunday as drier, more stable air settles in.

Highs settle into the low 80s across most of the state (upper 70s in the mountains, upper 70s at the coast), with lows in the 50s to low 60s. Delmarva and the Eastern Shore hold onto a slight shower chance, and Ocean City sees surf build to 2-3 feet with Moderate rip current risk. Labor Day (Monday): Looks like the best day of the holiday weekend — sunny, dry, seasonable, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s inland and upper 70s at the beaches.
