Save this one. Labor Day is shaping up to be about as good as a Maryland holiday gets — wall-to-wall sunshine, highs in the low 80s, and the lowest humidity we’ve felt in weeks.
Per NWS Baltimore/Washington (issued 10:11 AM), broad high pressure over the Great Lakes tracks across the Mid-Atlantic through Monday, dragging in a genuinely different airmass with notably lower dew points. Their words: drier conditions, seasonable temperatures, lower humidity. No watches, no warnings, no storm chances to plan around. Whatever you had in mind for Monday — go do it.

Garrett (Deep Creek/Oakland): Mostly sunny, high near 74°. East wind around 5 mph. Overnight low 53°. The coolest, most comfortable corner of the state — ideal lake weather.
Allegany (Cumberland): Mostly sunny, high near 81°. Northeast wind around 2 mph. Low 56°.
Washington Co. (Hagerstown): Mostly sunny, high near 81°. North wind around 5 mph. Low 58°.
Northern & Central Maryland
Frederick/Carroll: Mostly sunny, high near 81°. Northeast wind around 3 mph. Low 58°.
Baltimore & Central MD: Mostly sunny, high near 82°. Northeast wind around 5 mph. Low 64°. Parade and cookout weather, plain and simple.
DC Suburbs & Southern Maryland
Montgomery/PG (Silver Spring): Mostly sunny, high near 82°. Northeast wind around 5 mph. Low 62°.
Southern MD (Prince Frederick): Mostly sunny, high near 81°. Northeast wind 2–7 mph. Low 62°. Watch for patchy fog between 2 and 4 AM Monday if you’re on the road early.
Eastern Shore
Upper Shore (Easton): Mostly sunny, high near 81°. North wind around 5 mph. Low 62°.
Lower Shore (Salisbury): Sunny, high near 82°. Northeast wind 2–7 mph. Low 60°. Patchy fog before 7 AM Monday morning.
🏖️ Ocean City & the Beaches
Per the NWS Wakefield surf zone forecast (10:43 AM):
- Sunny, high in the mid 70s — 75° at the beach, cooler than inland thanks to that onshore breeze
- Northeast winds around 10 mph
- Surf 2 to 3 feet
- Water temperature around 80° — still warm
- Tides at the OC Fishing Pier: low 10:39 AM, high 5:16 PM
⚠️ Rip current risk rises to MODERATE on Labor Day, up from Low today. That is the one real hazard in an otherwise flawless forecast, and it lands on the last big beach day of the season. Swim near a lifeguard. If you get pulled out, don’t fight it — swim parallel to the beach until you’re free, then come in at an angle.
Tonight
Mostly clear and comfortable statewide, with lows from 51° in Garrett County to 67° in Ocean City. A slight chance of a shower on the Lower Shore before 7 PM — 20% at most, under a tenth of an inch — then patchy fog develops there and in Southern Maryland overnight.
Two Coastal Flood Statements from NWS Wakefield are in effect for minor tidal flooding: the Maryland beaches and inland Worcester until 11 PM tonight, and Dorchester, Wicomico and Somerset until 1 AM Monday. Expect some water in the usual low spots around high tide. Both expire before Labor Day gets going.
Looking Ahead
Tuesday keeps the good run going — sunny, highs in the mid 80s inland, upper 70s at the beach, still comfortable.
Then it turns. High pressure slides south and humidity starts climbing back Tuesday into Wednesday. NWS flags shower and thunderstorm chances returning by midweek, and by Thursday the metros could touch the lower 90s ahead of a cold front — hot, humid, and unsettled again. Enjoy Monday while it lasts.
Holiday Reminders
- UV is high even at 80° with a breeze. Sunscreen, reapply after swimming.
- Rip currents at moderate risk — swim near a lifeguard, and keep an eye on kids in the surf.
- Grills stay outside, away from the house and off the deck rail.
- Fog early Monday on the Lower Shore and in Southern Maryland — slow down if you’re heading out before sunrise.
- Hydrate anyway. Low humidity makes it easy to forget you’re losing water.
