Good morning, Maryland. Feel that? That’s the air we’ve been waiting for. NWS Baltimore/Washington (1:31 AM update) and NWS Mount Holly (5:53 AM update) both have the same story: broad high pressure is sliding in from the Great Lakes, dew points are dropping, and today turns into the most comfortable day we’ve had in a while — sunny, highs mostly in the low 80s, and none of that soupy stickiness. The one asterisk is far southern Maryland’s neighbors down toward the Virginia Piedmont, where NWS Wakefield (5:01 AM) still has some lingering morning showers exiting our southern fringe, plus a couple of coastal shower chances for Ocean City and the lower Shore drifting in off the water. Nothing that should derail your Sunday.

- Early morning (now–9 AM): A few lingering showers exiting the far southern fringe of the state near the Virginia line; patchy fog possible in low-lying spots, especially south-central Maryland. Otherwise clear skies overnight give way to sun.
- Mid-morning into afternoon: Sun takes over almost everywhere. A stray shower can’t be fully ruled out streaming down toward Salisbury/Ocean City off a weak disturbance offshore, but coverage is low (roughly 15-20% at most).
- Afternoon: Winds pick up out of the north/northeast, gusty near the coast — could brush marginal small craft levels late in the day on the bay and nearshore waters.
- Evening into overnight: Skies clear out further, temperatures drop into the 50s and low 60s inland, 60s along the corridor and coast. Patchy fog possible again in southern Maryland late.

Garrett County (Deep Creek/Oakland): High near 73° — comfortably mild for early September up in the mountains — under mostly sunny skies. East wind around 5 mph. Precip chance essentially nil (2%). Overnight low near 51°, crisp enough for a light jacket on the porch. A gorgeous day for the lake.
Allegany County (Cumberland): High around 82°, mostly sunny, light northeast wind near 5 mph. Precip chance just 5%. Overnight low near 56° under partly cloudy skies.
Northern & Central Maryland
Washington County (Hagerstown): Sunny and pleasant, high near 82°, north wind around 8 mph. Precip chance is zero. Overnight low around 58° with mostly clear skies.
Frederick County: High near 81° under sunny skies, breezy out of the northeast around 7 mph. No measurable rain expected. Overnight low around 60°, mostly clear.
Carroll County: Same story as Frederick — high near 81°, sunny, dry, with an overnight low near 60°.
Baltimore Metro
Baltimore City & County: Sunny and dry, high near 83°, north wind 5-8 mph. A stellar day to be outside — low humidity, bright sun. Overnight low near 66° under mostly clear skies.
Harford County: Same regional gridpoint — high near 83°, sunny, breezy from the north. Small craft could see marginal gusts on the upper bay late in the day. Overnight low near 65-66°.
Howard County: High near 83°, sunny, comfortable humidity. Overnight low near 65°.
Anne Arundel County: High near 83° with sunny skies and a north wind 5-8 mph — great conditions on the water early, though afternoon breezes build toward marginal small craft levels on the bay. Overnight low near 65°, partly cloudy with a small (6%) chance of an overnight sprinkle.
DC Suburbs
Montgomery County: Sunny, high near 83°, northeast wind around 7 mph. Overnight low near 64°, partly cloudy with a slight (5%) shower chance overnight — nothing to plan around.
Prince George’s County: Same setup — high near 83°, sunny and dry, overnight low near 64°.
Southern Maryland
Charles County: High near 81°, sunny, north wind 6-9 mph. Overnight low near 64°, with patchy fog possible late as skies stay mostly clear.
Calvert County: High near 81°, sunny. A small (2%) shower chance is essentially a non-factor. Overnight low near 64°, with fog possible toward dawn Monday.
St. Mary’s County: Same regional read — high near 81°, sunny, overnight low near 64° with patchy fog risk overnight into early Monday.
Upper Eastern Shore
Cecil County: Sunny, high near 82°, breezy northeast wind 5-10 mph. Overnight low near 62-63°.
Kent County: Same gridpoint as Easton — high near 82°, sunny, low near 63°.
Queen Anne’s County: High near 82°, sunny with a light-to-moderate northeast breeze. Overnight low near 62°, partly cloudy with a modest (7%) overnight shower chance.

Lower Eastern Shore
Dorchester County: High near 82° under a mix of sun and clouds — this is the zone most likely to see a passing shower today, with precip chances running higher (around 17%) as a weak disturbance drifts down the coast this afternoon, trailing into tonight (16%) before clearing. Overnight low near 62°. Also under a Coastal Flood Statement for minor tidal flooding — see hazards below.
Wicomico County (Salisbury): Same setup — high near 82°, mostly sunny with a slight chance of showers, mainly afternoon into evening. Overnight low near 62-64°. Also included in the Coastal Flood Statement.
Somerset County: High near 82°, similar slight shower risk this afternoon, overnight low near 62-64°. Coastal Flood Statement in effect here as well.
Ocean City & The Coast
Worcester County / Ocean City: Sunny, but noticeably cooler at the beach — high only in the upper 70s (near 77° per the gridpoint) with a brisk northeast wind 6-13 mph kicking up some chop. Precip chance around 13% today, mainly an isolated coastal shower risk. Surf around 2 feet, rip current risk LOW, water temps in the upper 70s — good swimming conditions. UV index HIGH, so don’t skip the sunscreen despite the cooler air. Tides at the Ocean City Fishing Pier: low 9:31 AM, high 4:12 PM. Overnight low near 67-69°, mostly clear. Inland Worcester and the Maryland beaches are under a Coastal Flood Statement for minor tidal flooding — see below.
Active Hazards
Coastal Flood Statement (Minor): In effect for inland Worcester County and the Maryland beaches, tied to this afternoon’s high tide cycle amid elevated onshore flow — expect minor tidal flooding in low-lying, flood-prone spots (docks, low roads near the bays). Also in effect for Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties on the lower Shore, where the same onshore setup could bring minor nuisance flooding around today’s high tide. Nothing widespread or dangerous, but plan around it if you’re near the water in Crisfield, Cambridge, or similar tidal spots. NWS Baltimore/Washington also notes minor tidal flooding is possible up at Annapolis and other sensitive spots in the northern Chesapeake Bay over the next several days as the elevated tidal pattern continues.
No watches, warnings, or advisories are posted for severe weather, flooding rain, heat, or wind across Maryland at this time. This is about as quiet as the hazards board gets.
Severe & Flooding
None expected today. The lingering shower activity exiting our southern fringe early this morning has lost its lightning and is generally light to locally moderate in intensity — a far cry from anything severe. No flooding concerns from rainfall are in play; today’s only flood mention is the minor, tide-driven coastal issue noted above.
Heat, Humidity, Winds & The Bay
This is the headline, really: dew points are dropping hard today as the drier Canadian-sourced airmass settles in behind that departing shower activity. It’ll feel like genuine early-autumn air for the first time in a while — light, crisp, none of the mugginess. Winds run north to northeast at 5-10 mph inland, gusting a bit higher toward the coast and bay shorelines (10-15 mph at Ocean City). On the Chesapeake Bay, no hazards are expected, though onshore gusts could flirt with marginal small craft levels late this afternoon — NWS Baltimore/Washington is leaning toward a Marine Weather Statement rather than a formal advisory given the brief duration. Boaters on the bay and tidal Potomac should keep an eye on building afternoon chop.

Looking Ahead
Labor Day (Monday): Another very pleasant day — mostly sunny, highs again mostly in the low-to-mid 80s across most of the state (upper 70s to around 75° at Ocean City, with a moderate rip current risk developing at the coast, surf building to 2-3 feet). A great holiday to be outside. Tuesday: Temperatures nudge up a touch further (mid-to-upper 80s inland) as humidity slowly creeps back in ahead of a pattern change. By midweek, moisture returns in earnest, and a cold front arriving Wednesday night into Thursday looks to bring our next real shower and thunderstorm chances, with highs potentially reaching the low 90s in the metro corridor ahead of it Thursday. We’ll have the details as that system comes into better focus.
