The one asterisk is a stray shower or two lingering near the Chesapeake Bay and southern tidal waters through mid-morning, plus a lingering Coastal Flood Advisory that expired at 5 AM for the Annapolis area. Otherwise, fire up the grill with confidence.

Region by Region
Western Maryland — Garrett County (Deep Creek, Oakland) tops out around 74°, with patchy morning fog giving way to sunshine and light easterly winds near 5 mph. Allegany County (Cumberland) runs a bit warmer at 81° under sunny skies, breezes light out of the northeast. Tonight, Garrett dips to near 52°, Cumberland to around 55° — jacket weather if you’re sitting outside after dark.
Northern & Central Maryland — Washington County (Hagerstown) sees a sunny 81° with light north winds near 5 mph. Frederick and Carroll counties land right around 80°, also sunny with a gentle northeast breeze. Low humidity makes it feel especially crisp for early September. Overnight lows settle into the upper 50s across this zone — Hagerstown near 57°, Frederick/Carroll close behind.
Baltimore Metro — Baltimore City and County, Harford, Howard, and Anne Arundel are all pegged to the same gridpoint: a sunny 82° with light northeast winds around 5 mph. Comfortable dew points make this one of the nicer holiday afternoons in recent memory — patio and cookout conditions across the board. Lows tonight fall to around 62°, partly cloudy skies overnight.
DC Suburbs — Montgomery and Prince George’s counties also reach a sunny 82° with light northeast winds. A very slight (3%) shower chance is essentially a non-factor. Overnight lows dip to near 61°, mostly clear.
Southern Maryland — Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties reach 81° with a light northeast-to-easterly breeze (2 to 7 mph) and sunny skies, though there’s a slightly higher (6%) chance of a stray shower given proximity to the bay — mainly an early-day concern. Lows tonight settle near 61°.
Upper Eastern Shore — Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, and Caroline counties (Easton gridpoint) see a sunny 81° with light winds under 5 mph. Overnight lows drop to near 63°, mostly clear.
Lower Eastern Shore — Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties (Salisbury gridpoint) reach 82° with patchy morning fog clearing to mostly sunny skies, light northeast winds 3 to 7 mph, and a slightly elevated (12%) shower chance, mainly in the morning. A Coastal Flood Statement for minor flooding remains posted for these three counties — check local tide tables if you’re near the water, especially around high tide cycles. Overnight lows fall to around 58°.
Ocean City & the Coast — Worcester County runs cooler thanks to onshore flow, with a high near 76° and a slight chance of showers (15%), northeast winds 6 to 12 mph. Surf runs 2 to 3 feet, water temperature around 80°, and — importantly — a Moderate Rip Current Risk is in effect from 8 AM through this evening per NWS Wakefield. If you’re swimming today, stick near a lifeguard and respect the flags. Tides at the Ocean City Fishing Pier: low around 10:39 AM, high around 5:16 PM. Skies are mostly sunny with that slight shower chance mixed in, and UV index runs high, so sunscreen is non-negotiable.
Active Hazards
A Coastal Flood Advisory for Anne Arundel County (MDZ014) expired at 5 AM this morning — that’s now cleared. A Coastal Flood Statement (Minor) remains in effect for Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties on the Lower Eastern Shore, tied to elevated tidal anomalies from onshore flow; minor flooding is possible around high tide cycles this week. Separately, NWS Wakefield has a Moderate Rip Current Risk in effect for Maryland’s Atlantic beaches (Ocean City and Assateague) from 8 AM through this evening.
Severe & Flooding Threat
None expected today. No severe weather, no flash flood concerns statewide. The only wrinkle is that minor coastal/tidal flooding threat on the Lower Shore tied to the advisory above, and a few inconsequential showers early over the bay and southern tidal waters. Confidence is high for a quiet, dry holiday.
Heat, Humidity & Winds
This is about as comfortable as September gets — dew points are dropping across the state, so even with highs in the low-to-mid 80s, it won’t feel oppressive. Winds are generally light, out of the northeast at 2 to 7 mph inland, running a touch breezier near the coast (up to 12 mph at Ocean City). No wind advisories in effect.
Chesapeake Bay & Marine
No marine hazards through Wednesday per NWS Baltimore/Washington. Light northeasterly winds today shifting more southerly by Tuesday, staying below Small Craft Advisory levels. Boaters should note tidal anomalies remain a bit elevated this week, with Annapolis flirting with minor flooding at high tide in the coming days — plan accordingly if you’re launching from a low dock.

Looking Ahead
Tuesday: Even nicer, with high pressure centered right overhead. Sunshine continues, humidity stays low, and highs climb a few degrees into the mid-80s inland (upper 70s to near 80 at Ocean City). A great back-to-school or back-to-work day if there ever was one.
Wednesday: The warming trend continues as high pressure slides offshore and southwesterly flow returns. Expect upper 80s inland (Cumberland and Hagerstown near 88°, Baltimore near 89°) with increasing humidity. Showers stay well north of the area for most of the day. By Wednesday night into Thursday, a cold front approaches from the west, bringing a better chance of showers and thunderstorms — some guidance hints at a few stronger storms given the building heat and humidity, though the severe threat currently looks marginal. We’ll fine-tune that timing as the week goes on.
