A cold front is sliding south across the state through the day, and per NWS Baltimore/Washington (4:07 AM) and NWS Mount Holly (4:03 AM), the rain and thunder that could’ve come with it are largely staying south of us — confined to central Virginia and points south, per NWS Wakefield (3:13 AM). What we get instead is patchy morning fog, a mild-to-warm afternoon in the 80s, and noticeably drier air moving in behind the front. It’s a good day to be outside, honestly.
No watches, warnings, or advisories are posted for Maryland this morning — a rare clean slate. Enjoy it, because the pattern gets busier by the middle of next week.
Timing: How Today Unfolds
- Early morning (now–9 AM): Patchy fog across valleys and low-lying spots, especially in Frederick/Carroll and along the Bay. Give yourself a few extra minutes on the commute where it’s thick.
- Mid-morning into afternoon: Fog burns off, skies turn partly to mostly cloudy with some sun mixing in. A stray shower can’t be fully ruled out over far southwestern Maryland (Garrett/Allegany), but coverage is isolated at best — most of us stay dry.
- Afternoon: Winds shift out of the north as the front works through, dewpoints start easing down from the sticky lower-70s toward the 60s. Warmest readings of the day arrive by mid-afternoon.
- Evening into overnight: Skies clear out under building high pressure, temperatures drop quickly, and it turns comfortably cool for mid-September — jacket weather by early Saturday morning in spots.

Garrett County (Deep Creek/Oakland): High around 73° under patchy fog early, then a mix of sun and clouds. Winds light out of the northwest around 5 mph. A 27% chance of a stray shower lingers through the day — nothing widespread. Overnight drops to near 53° with clearing skies, a genuinely crisp mountain night.
Allegany County (Cumberland): High near 82° with morning fog giving way to sun and clouds; a scattered shower chance (28%) exists but most stay dry. Winds light and northwesterly. Lows tonight fall to around 56°.

Washington County (Hagerstown): High around 83°, mostly cloudy with a light north wind 3-8 mph. Only an 11% shower chance — essentially a dry day. Overnight low near 57°, comfortable and clear.
Frederick County: High near 83° under mostly cloudy skies, winds north 2-7 mph, just a 9% shower chance. Overnight low around 58°.
Carroll County: Same air mass as Frederick — high near 83°, mostly cloudy, dry. Low tonight around 58°, crisp by dawn Saturday.
Baltimore Metro
Baltimore City & County: Today’s warmest reading region-wide, high near 86° under mostly cloudy skies with a north wind 5-9 mph. Precip chance is minimal at 6%. Dewpoints ease down as the day goes on — noticeably less sticky by evening. Low tonight near 62°.
Harford County: Tracking with the Baltimore grid — low-to-mid 80s today, mostly cloudy, dry. Comfortable low near 62° overnight.
Howard County: High near 86°, mostly cloudy, light north winds. Overnight low around 62°.
Anne Arundel County: Same setup — mid-80s, mostly cloudy, dry, with drier air working in through the afternoon. Low near 62° tonight.
DC Suburbs
Montgomery County: High near 84°, mostly cloudy with a north wind around 8 mph. Only a 10% shower chance — plan on a dry day. Overnight low near 62°.
Prince George’s County: Tracking the same grid — mid-80s, mostly cloudy, dry, low around 62° tonight.
Southern Maryland

Lower Eastern Shore
Dorchester County: High near 86°, partly sunny, northwest wind 3-9 mph. Low near 66° overnight — the milder overnight low of the Shore zones.
Wicomico County (Salisbury): Same as above — around 86°, partly sunny, a 9% shower chance, low near 66°.
Somerset County: High near 86°, partly sunny, breezy at times out of the northwest. Low near 66° tonight.
Ocean City & the Coast
Worcester County / Ocean City: High around 80° with partly sunny skies, winds starting light out of the north (around 5 mph at the immediate coast) and increasing to northeast 7-15 mph by evening. Just a 6% shower chance — essentially dry. Surf around 2 feet with a low rip current risk — one of the calmer beach days you’ll see this stretch. Water temps sit in the upper 70s, UV index high, so sunscreen still matters. Tides at the Ocean City Fishing Pier: low tide at 7:00 AM, high tide at 1:30 PM. Overnight low near 70° with a livelier northeast breeze picking up toward 15 mph as the night goes on.

Confidence is high that Maryland stays free of severe weather and flooding today.

It’ll still feel warm-side of average through the afternoon with highs in the low-to-mid 80s across most of central and southern Maryland, but dewpoints are trending down from the sticky lower 70s toward the 60s as the day progresses — meaning the air feels noticeably less oppressive by evening than it has recently. Winds run out of the north generally 5-10 mph, gusting a bit higher across the Baltimore corridor and DC suburbs, and increasing toward the coast tonight as onshore flow builds ahead of the weekend.
Chesapeake Bay & Marine
No marine hazards are posted for the Bay or tidal Potomac this morning. Expect light-to-moderate north winds today, gradually easing tonight as high pressure settles in — generally benign boating conditions through the weekend.

Looking Ahead
Saturday: The best day of the stretch — dry, cooler, and comfortable across the board with highs mostly in the 70s to near 80 under a mix of sun and increasing clouds later in the day. Light-to-moderate northeast winds, especially noticeable at the coast (gusting near 15-16 mph in Ocean City), with rip current risk rising to moderate there and surf building to 2-4 feet.
Sunday: Warmer and more humid air returns from the south, with highs back into the low-to-mid 80s inland. Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely to develop during the afternoon, especially across the western half of the state, continuing on and off into Sunday night as a cold front tied to an unusually strong Canadian high sags south through Maryland. The Eastern Shore and Ocean City look to hold off on rain until later Sunday night. Beyond that, unsettled and cooler-than-normal weather looks likely to persist through much of next week as a cold air damming pattern sets up — highs eventually dropping into the 60s by midweek.
