After a stretch of stickier, more unsettled days, today is the pause button — high pressure building in from southern Quebec is nudging out the humidity and leaving us with a milder, mostly cloudy-to-partly-sunny Saturday. NWS Baltimore/Washington (issued 3:57 AM) and NWS Mount Holly (4:17 AM) both agree: enjoy it, because the front-loaded warmth and rain chances return tomorrow. NWS Wakefield, which handles the far southern fringe of our state, calls it a rather benign mid-September day — and that’s about right statewide.
Timing
Today stays dry basically everywhere — this is a clean day, no drama to invent. Patchy fog may linger in the western valleys at daybreak, otherwise skies run partly to mostly cloudy through the afternoon with winds slowly backing from northeast to east and eventually southeast tonight. Clouds thicken again overnight as low-end shower chances creep in from the south ahead of tomorrow’s system — nothing more than a slight chance before daybreak Sunday, with the real action (showers and a few thunderstorms) arriving Sunday afternoon into Sunday night as a cold front approaches.
Western Maryland
Garrett County (Deep Creek / Oakland): High near 74° under patchy morning fog giving way to mostly cloudy skies, winds light out of the southeast 3-7 mph, precip chance just 4% — a quiet day up in the mountains. Overnight drops to around 59° with clouds thickening and a slight chance of showers creeping in late.
Allegany County (Cumberland): Overnight low near 57° with mostly cloudy skies persisting into the morning. Today climbs to around 77° — mostly cloudy, winds light and easterly 1-5 mph, only an 8% shower chance. Tonight settles near 61° with clouds increasing and a slight chance of showers developing by daybreak Sunday.
Northern & Central Maryland
Washington County (Hagerstown): A partly cloudy start near 57° gives way to a partly sunny afternoon around 78°, winds light out of the northeast 2-7 mph, just an 11% precip chance. Tonight cools to around 64° as clouds build and shower chances rise toward 30% by early Sunday.
Frederick & Carroll Counties: Nearly identical story — overnight low near 58°, partly cloudy, winds northeast around 9 mph. Today reaches about 78° under partly sunny skies with an 11% shower chance. Tonight dips to around 65° with slight shower chances (23%) building in ahead of Sunday.
Baltimore Metro
Baltimore City & County, Harford, Howard, Anne Arundel: A comfortable start near 62° under mostly clear skies. Highs today reach about 80° with partly sunny skies, winds northeast 5-9 mph, and just a 6% shower chance — about as clean a September Saturday as you’ll get around the Beltway. Tonight cools to around 68° with clouds increasing and a slight (21%) shower chance developing toward dawn.
DC Suburbs
Montgomery & Prince George’s Counties: Highs today around 78° under partly sunny skies, winds light out of the northeast around 8 mph, with just a 4% chance of rain — essentially a non-issue. Overnight lows settle near 64° as clouds increase and a slight (16%) shower chance sneaks in toward early Sunday morning.
Southern Maryland
Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s Counties: Overnight low near 65° with partly cloudy skies. Today tops out around 80° — mostly sunny, winds northeast 6-10 mph, only a 6% precip chance. Tonight holds near 66° under mostly cloudy skies with just an 8% shower chance, keeping the region drier than points north into early Sunday.
Upper Eastern Shore
Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline Counties: Overnight low near 65° under partly cloudy skies. Today reaches about 81° with mostly sunny skies, winds northeast 5-10 mph, and a light 4% shower chance. Tonight cools to around 64° with mostly cloudy skies and just a 5% precip chance — the driest overnight in the state.
Lower Eastern Shore
Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset Counties: Overnight low near 66° with mostly cloudy skies. Today climbs to around 80° under partly sunny skies, winds northeast 5-12 mph, and a 12% shower chance. Tonight settles near 65° with partly cloudy skies and a modest 10% precip chance.
Ocean City & the Coast
Worcester County: A cooler coastal day thanks to that persistent northeast onshore flow — overnight low near 71°, and today’s high only reaches around 75° under mostly sunny skies with breezy northeast winds around 14 mph. Tonight stays mild near 69°, partly cloudy, winds east around 14 mph.
Beaches: A Moderate Rip Current Risk is in effect from 8 AM this morning through this evening for all Maryland beaches, including Ocean City and Assateague. Surf runs 2 to 4 feet, water temps in the upper 70s, UV index high. Low tide at the Ocean City Fishing Pier is 7:56 AM, high tide 2:33 PM. Anyone heading to the sand today should mind the flags and stay close to the lifeguards — a mostly sunny day at the beach with a real undertow underneath it.
Active Hazards
No active watches, warnings, or advisories are in effect for Maryland at this time. The lone standing hazard is the Moderate Rip Current Risk for Ocean City and Assateague beaches noted above, in effect 8 AM through this evening. The marine Small Craft Advisory over the main stem of the Bay is easing after sunrise as winds back off from the overnight northeast blow, though low-end SCA conditions could return tonight and into Sunday as flow turns southerly, then again Sunday night behind the front.
Severe & Flooding
Nothing severe or flood-related is expected today — this is a hold-your-breath kind of calm before Sunday’s system. NWS Baltimore/Washington flags a cold front swinging through Sunday into Sunday night bringing showers and a few thunderstorms as warm, humid air surges back in ahead of it. NWS Mount Holly likewise notes an isolated flash flooding threat, mainly for urban areas, with that system Sunday into Monday, though recent model trends have nudged rain totals down slightly. Confidence in timing is decent; confidence in exact rainfall amounts is still coming into focus.

Dewpoints have fallen into the upper 50s to mid 60s early this morning, so today should feel notably less sticky than recent days — genuinely pleasant September air. Winds stay light and shift through the day: north/northeast this morning, easing to east and then southeast by afternoon as high pressure builds off to our north and east. On the Bay, Small Craft Advisory conditions continue early this morning in that lingering northeast flow, easing after sunrise, then possibly redeveloping tonight into Sunday as winds turn southerly across the wider waters.
