MD Weather Alerts · Evening/Overnight Edition
Tuesday, October 27, 2026

It’s about as quiet a night as you’ll get this time of year. Per NWS Baltimore/Washington’s 3:23 PM discussion and NWS Wakefield’s 2:47 PM update, a weak front to our south will retreat northward as a warm front Wednesday morning, with high pressure building in behind it — meaning clear skies, light winds, and comfortable radiational cooling across the state tonight. The only thing to watch for is patchy fog developing late tonight into Wednesday morning as onshore flow kicks in, especially along and west of I-95 and up toward the Blue Ridge side of the mountains.

Tonight’s Timeline

  • Evening (7–10 PM): Skies clear out statewide, light easterly-to-northeasterly winds (5 mph or less inland). Comfortable, crisp fall evening for the dog walk or the high school football game.
  • Late night (Midnight–4 AM): Calm winds and clear skies set up good radiational cooling. Patchy fog starts to form in low-lying valleys, especially in Western Maryland and along the Potomac River Valley.
  • Pre-dawn (4–7 AM Wed): Fog becomes more widespread as onshore flow strengthens slightly — watch for reduced visibility on back roads and near rivers/creeks heading into the Wednesday morning commute.
  • Sunrise onward: Fog burns off through mid-morning, giving way to a mix of patchy high clouds and sun Wednesday.

Region by Region

Western Maryland — Garrett & Allegany

Deep Creek and Oakland drop to around 44° tonight (low-to-mid 40s) under mostly clear skies with light southeast winds and patchy fog settling into the valleys. Cumberland runs a touch milder at 45°, also with patchy fog developing overnight. Wednesday brings more fog at daybreak before partial clearing, with highs near 66-67°.

Northern & Central — Washington, Frederick, Carroll

Hagerstown falls to around 46° overnight with light easterly winds shifting southeast and patchy fog forming toward morning. Frederick and Carroll are similar, near 47°, under partly cloudy skies. All three counties see fog develop by early Wednesday morning before clouds increase through the day — highs back in the mid-to-upper 60s, around 66-67°.

Baltimore Metro — City, County, Harford, Howard, Anne Arundel

Mostly clear skies tonight with lows near 49° (upper 40s) and light easterly winds around 5 mph. Pleasant, jacket-weather evening for anything outdoors in Fells Point, Towson, Bel Air, Columbia, or Annapolis. Wednesday turns partly sunny with highs around 67°, and some patchy fog is possible at daybreak, especially near the Patapsco and Bay shoreline.

DC Suburbs — Montgomery & Prince George’s

Silver Spring and the inner suburbs see lows near 50° under mostly clear skies with light easterly winds. Wednesday stays mild with highs around 67° and partly sunny skies, with that same chance for early-morning fog patches along the Potomac.

Southern Maryland — Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s

Prince Frederick’s gridpoint has lows near 49° tonight with patchy fog expected to develop, especially near the Patuxent and Potomac tidal waters. Light easterly winds around 5 mph. Wednesday brings more patchy fog at sunrise before clearing to partly sunny, highs near 67°.

Upper Eastern Shore — Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline

Easton’s gridpoint calls for lows near 46° tonight with patchy fog forming overnight, light winds generally under 5 mph. Wednesday sees fog clear out to mostly sunny skies with highs near 69°, comfortable for any harvest-season outdoor work across the Shore’s farmland.

Lower Eastern Shore — Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset

Salisbury’s area holds a bit of a breeze tonight, northeast winds 2-8 mph, with lows near 46° and skies mostly clear rather than foggy. Wednesday warms to near 70° under mostly sunny skies with a light east wind.

Ocean City & the Coast — Worcester

The coast stays breeziest tonight, with northeast winds 9-14 mph keeping temperatures milder — lows only near 55°. Skies are mostly clear. Seas and surf remain unremarkable with no marine hazards flagged; no rip current statement is in effect, but as always with a stiff onshore breeze, use caution if you’re wading after dark. Wednesday brings a few more clouds with highs near 65° and a light northeast breeze continuing.

Active Hazards

There are currently no active watches, warnings, or advisories for Maryland. NWS Baltimore/Washington’s Hazardous Weather Outlook (issued 4:41 PM) confirms no hazardous weather is expected tonight across the I-95 corridor, the Chesapeake Bay, or the Tidal Potomac. Enjoy the break.

Severe & Flooding

None expected. No convective or flooding concerns are noted in tonight’s guidance anywhere in Maryland. The next chance of any rain at all doesn’t show up until Sunday at the earliest, as a broader system approaches from the Midwest — more on that below.

Winds, Humidity & the Bay

Winds stay light tonight across the state — generally east to northeast at 5 mph or less inland, a bit brisker at 9-14 mph right along the immediate coast at Ocean City. NWS Baltimore/Washington notes some mild tidal concern: light onshore flow Wednesday into Thursday may push sensitive shoreline spots like Annapolis close to minor flood stage during the higher evening tide cycles — worth a glance if you’re near the water downtown. On the Bay and tidal Potomac, winds remain light and well below Small Craft Advisory thresholds through the week.

Overnight Lows by Zone

Zone Overnight Low
Western Mountains (Deep Creek/Oakland) ~44°
Cumberland/Hagerstown 45–46°
Frederick/Carroll ~47°
Baltimore/DC Corridor 49–50°
Southern Maryland ~49°
Eastern Shore (Upper & Lower) 46°
Ocean City ~55°

Looking Ahead

Wednesday brings patchy morning fog statewide, clearing to a mix of clouds and sun with highs generally in the mid-to-upper 60s — 66-69° depending on where you are, with the Eastern Shore running a touch warmer. Thursday looks even nicer as high pressure builds in and winds swing southwesterly: highs climb into the low-to-mid 70s almost everywhere, from Cumberland (75°) to Baltimore and DC (71-73°) to the Shore (71-73°). Friday looks to be the pick of the week, with mid-to-upper 70s expected region-wide as warm southerly flow takes over ahead of the weekend. Beyond that, NWS is watching a system that could bring the first real rain chances in well over a week starting Sunday into early next week — details and confidence remain low for now, but we’ll keep tracking it.
