Evening / Overnight Edition
Friday, October 30, 2026

Tonight is about as clean as a late-October night gets in Maryland. NWS Baltimore/Washington (2:24 PM update) and NWS Wakefield (3:05 PM update) both describe a dry, cool, breezy-then-calming night behind this morning’s cold front, with high pressure building in to set up a seasonable, pleasant Halloween and weekend. No watches, warnings, or advisories are posted for Maryland on land — the lone active alert is a Small Craft Advisory on the tidal waters, expiring Saturday morning.

Tonight’s Timeline

  • Now–8 PM: Lingering breeziness from this afternoon’s northwest winds (gusts 20-30 mph) tapers off as the sun sets — should be comfortable for the earliest trick-or-treaters out tonight if your neighborhood starts before dark.
  • 8 PM–Midnight: Winds continue to subside as high pressure noses in from the north. Skies stay mostly clear to partly cloudy. Temperatures fall steadily into the 50s, then 40s by areas inland.
  • Midnight–Sunrise: Coldest stretch of the night. Light winds, clear-to-partly-cloudy skies, lows bottoming out in the 30s west, 40s elsewhere. Light jacket weather turns into need-the-real-coat weather by early morning.

Western Maryland

Garrett County (Deep Creek / Oakland): Tonight’s low around 34° — mid-30s — under partly cloudy skies with light northwest wind (0-8 mph) and essentially no precip chance (1%). This is the one spot in the state flirting with the edge of frost territory, so bring in any tender plants. Saturday rebounds nicely to 61° with mostly sunny skies.

Allegany County (Cumberland): A sunny 70° this afternoon gives way to a clear, calm night — low near 38°, light north wind 1-10 mph, no precip. Comfortable for any lingering trick-or-treat cleanup or late-evening dog walks. Saturday climbs back to 65° under mostly sunny skies.

Northern & Central Maryland

Washington County (Hagerstown): Sunny and mild this afternoon at 72°, cooling to a mostly clear 38° overnight with light north wind (2-10 mph) and no precip. Saturday’s high near 63° with mostly sunny skies.

Frederick & Carroll Counties: Overnight low around 40° — upper 30s to low 40s — under mostly clear skies, light north wind 2-8 mph, no precip chance. Great conditions for anyone still out finishing up Halloween festivities after dark. Saturday high near 64° and mostly sunny.

Baltimore Metro

Baltimore City & County, Harford, Howard, Anne Arundel: A sunny 75° this afternoon settles into a mostly clear night, low around 45° — low-to-mid 40s — with northwest wind easing from 5-10 mph and no precip chance. About as pleasant as trick-or-treat weather gets around the Beltway. Saturday stays dry with a high near 64° and mostly sunny skies.

DC Suburbs

Montgomery & Prince George’s Counties: This afternoon’s sunny 74° cools to a mostly clear 43° overnight — low-to-mid 40s — with north wind diminishing from 6-10 mph and no precip chance. Comfortable, calm conditions for the last of tonight’s trick-or-treaters. Saturday brings a high near 63° with mostly sunny skies and a light north breeze.

Southern Maryland

Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s Counties: Sunny and mild this afternoon at 75°, dropping to a mostly clear 44° tonight — low-to-mid 40s — with north wind near 8 mph and no precip chance. Saturday turns sunny again with a high near 61° and a light northeast breeze off the water.

Eastern Shore & Ocean City

Upper Shore (Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline): Overnight low around 44° — low-to-mid 40s — under mostly clear skies, with a steadier north wind of 10-15 mph and no precip chance. Saturday high near 63° and mostly sunny, winds still breezy at times (5-15 mph).

Lower Shore (Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset): Similar story — low near 42° overnight, mostly clear, north wind 6-10 mph, no precip. Saturday sunny with a high near 62°.

Ocean City & the Coast (Worcester): This afternoon’s sunny 73° gives way to a breezier night at the beach — low near 48°, mostly clear, north wind 12-15 mph. No precip chance. Saturday stays sunny but cooler right along the water, high near 58° with brisk north wind 8-15 mph — grab a windbreaker if you’re out on the boardwalk.

Active Hazards

No watches, warnings, or advisories are in effect for Maryland on land. The only active alert statewide is a Small Craft Advisory for Maryland’s tidal waters and the Chesapeake Bay — including the Bay north of Pooles Island, Pooles Island to Sandy Point, Sandy Point to North Beach, North Beach to Drum Point, Drum Point to Smith Point, the tidal Potomac, Patapsco River/Baltimore Harbor, Chester River to Queenstown, Eastern Bay, Choptank/Little Choptank, Patuxent River, and Tangier Sound — in effect until 9 AM EDT Saturday as northwest winds gust 20-25 knots. Boaters and anyone out on the water tonight should expect choppy conditions until the advisory lifts Saturday morning.

Severe & Flooding

None expected. This is a dry, quiet weather pattern with high pressure firmly in control — no severe weather or flooding concerns through the weekend.

Winds & Chesapeake Bay

This afternoon’s gusty northwest winds (20-30 mph) ease through the evening as high pressure builds in from the north. By midnight, most of the state sees light winds in the single digits to low teens. The Bay and tidal waters remain under Small Craft Advisory into Saturday morning as the breeze lingers longer over open water than it does on land.

Overnight Lows by Zone

Cumberland/Hagerstown ~38°
Frederick/Carroll ~40°
Baltimore/DC Corridor ~43-45°

Looking Ahead

Halloween itself (Saturday) looks seasonable and pleasant statewide — mostly sunny, highs in the 60s for most of the state, upper 50s on the coast and in the far west. Sunday stays dry with highs in the low-to-mid 60s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Dry conditions hold into early next week before rain chances return by Wednesday and linger into Thursday as a more active pattern takes shape.
