Morning Edition
Good morning. The secondary cold front NWS Baltimore/Washington and Mount Holly have been tracking overnight is sliding through as you read this, and behind it comes the kind of air that finally feels like November — crisp, dry, and a little feisty in the wind department. Expect brisk northwest gusts through the afternoon before things settle down tonight. No rain, no drama, just a proper autumn Saturday.
Timing at a Glance
The secondary front has already cleared or is clearing the state in the early morning hours. Behind it: northwest winds build through mid-morning into early afternoon, with gusts peaking in the 25-35 mph range statewide from roughly late morning through mid-afternoon. Any lingering patchy fog or stray cloud deck (mainly over the mountains and lower Eastern Shore at daybreak) burns off and scatters through the morning. Winds ease back down after sunset, and tonight turns clear and cold with lighter breezes by the overnight hours.
Region by Region
Western Maryland
Garrett County (Deep Creek/Oakland): High near 43°, mostly cloudy with patchy fog lingering into the morning, west winds 12-20 mph. It’s the one corner of the state that won’t feel like a classic sunny Saturday — keep the fog lights handy on Rt. 219 early on. Low tonight near 33° with fog redeveloping.
Allegany County (Cumberland): High around 52°, partly sunny with west winds 7-17 mph. Noticeably milder than the high country thanks to some favorable downslope flow. Low tonight near 39°.
Northern & Central Maryland
Washington County (Hagerstown): High near 57°, mostly sunny, but breezy — northwest winds 8-22 mph with the stronger gusts arriving by afternoon. Low near 40° overnight.
Frederick County: High around 58°, mostly sunny with gusty northwest winds 9-21 mph. A fine day to rake leaves, provided you don’t mind them blowing right back. Low near 42°.
Carroll County: Sharing Frederick’s gridpoint — high near 58°, mostly sunny, breezy. Low around 42° tonight under partly cloudy skies.
Baltimore Metro
Baltimore City & County: High near 60°, mostly sunny with northwest winds 10-18 mph gusting higher at times. A classic bright, breezy fall day — hang onto your hat downtown. Low tonight near 46°, mostly clear.
Harford County: Tracking with the Baltimore grid — high near 60°, breezy and bright, low around 46°.
Howard County: Same story, high near 60°, sunny breaks through a few early clouds, low near 46°.
Anne Arundel County: High near 60°, mostly sunny with gusty northwest wind off the Bay adding a bite to the air along the shoreline. Low near 46°.
DC Suburbs
Montgomery County: High around 58°, mostly sunny, breezy with northwest winds 12-20 mph. Low near 43°, mostly clear.
Prince George’s County: Matching Montgomery’s numbers — high near 58°, gusty wind through the afternoon, low around 44° and mostly clear overnight.
Southern Maryland
Charles County: High near 60°, mostly sunny with northwest winds 15-18 mph — hold onto loose patio furniture. Low tonight near 40°.
Calvert County: Same gridpoint, high around 60°, breezy and clear tonight down to near 40°.
St. Mary’s County: High near 60°, mostly sunny, brisk northwest wind especially along the Potomac and Bay shorelines. Low near 40°, mostly clear.
Upper Eastern Shore
Cecil County: High around 58°, sunny after early clouds clear, northwest winds near 15 mph. Low near 45° tonight.
Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline Counties: All tracking the Easton gridpoint — high near 58°, sunny, breezy northwest wind around 15 mph. Fog or lingering cloud at daybreak gives way to a crisp, sun-filled afternoon. Low near 45°, mostly clear.
Lower Eastern Shore
Dorchester County: High near 60°, sunny with northwest winds 9-15 mph. Any early fog from last night’s lingering moisture clears out quickly. Low near 42°.
Wicomico County (Salisbury): Same pattern — high around 60°, sunny and breezy, low near 42° and mostly clear.
Somerset County: High near 60°, sunny, west-northwest wind around 9-15 mph. Low near 42° overnight.
Ocean City & the Coast
Worcester County / Ocean City: High near 59°, sunny and breezy with northwest winds 15-18 mph — a brisk boardwalk day, light jacket weather by the water. Surf will be choppy with the gusty offshore-to-onshore flow; use caution if you’re tempted into the water this time of year, as rip current risk runs higher than usual with the wind-driven chop. Low tonight near 45°, mostly clear.
Active Hazards
No watches, warnings, or advisories are in effect for Maryland’s land areas this morning. On the water, it’s a different story: a Small Craft Advisory is in effect until 4 PM EST Sunday for the Chesapeake Bay and tidal Potomac zones (including Chesapeake Bay north of Pooles Island, Pooles Island to Sandy Point, Sandy Point to North Beach, North Beach to Drum Point, Drum Point to Smith Point, and the tidal Potomac from Key Bridge down to Smith Point), with a Small Craft Advisory until 6 AM EST Sunday for the more sheltered tidal waters (Patapsco/Baltimore Harbor, Chester River to Queenstown, Eastern Bay, Choptank/Little Choptank, Patuxent River, and Tangier Sound). Boaters and anglers should expect gusty northwest winds and building chop through the period.
Severe & Flooding
None expected. This is a dry, benign pattern with precipitation chances at or near zero percent statewide today and tonight. No flooding or severe weather concerns on the table.
Wind, Humidity & the Bay
Today’s headline is wind, not heat or humidity. Northwest gusts of 25-35 mph are likely across the Chesapeake Bay and open areas of central and southern Maryland through the afternoon, easing to under 20 mph tonight as the pressure gradient relaxes. Dew points are dropping into the 30s behind the front, so the air will feel notably drier and crisper than it has in days — good news if you’ve been fighting haze or humidity, less good news if static electricity bothers you. On the Bay itself, mariners should plan around the Small Craft Advisories noted above.

Looking Ahead
Sunday: Even nicer — lighter winds, a touch warmer with highs mainly in the low-to-mid 60s statewide (near 52° in Garrett, low 60s Cumberland to the Shore), and plenty of sunshine as shortwave ridging builds in. A great weekend send-off.
Monday onward: Dry weather continues with another cold frontal passage bringing a round of breezy northwest winds. Highs stay mainly in the 60s (50s in the mountains) through midweek under mostly clear to sunny skies, with Tuesday standing out as the mildest day — potentially near 70° in spots. By late next week, a deepening trough approaching from the Upper Midwest looks to usher in a colder, more unsettled pattern, possibly with rain or snow showers over the Alleghenies by Friday. Confidence on specifics is still low this far out, but the cooling trend heading into next weekend looks increasingly likely.
Data: NWS Baltimore/Washington, Mount Holly & Wakefield.
