Good evening, Maryland. Tonight is the coolest night of the season so far statewide, and out in the Alleghenies it’s cold enough for frost. NWS Baltimore/Washington (2:56 PM update) has a Frost Advisory running Midnight to 9 AM Tuesday for the far western mountains, while NWS Mount Holly and NWS Wakefield both confirm the same story bleeding into neighboring regions: a crisp, dry, radiational-cooling night behind Monday’s cold front. No rain, no wind worries, just a proper autumn chill settling in under crystal-clear skies.

Tonight’s Timeline

  • 6–9 PM: Clear skies finish settling in, winds beginning to ease from the brisk afternoon northwest breeze.
  • 9 PM–Midnight: Temperatures fall quickly under clear skies and the drying air. Winds go calm west of the Blue Ridge/mountains, staying light northerly elsewhere.
  • Midnight–9 AM Tuesday: Frost Advisory active for Garrett and far western Allegany. Widespread 30s there, with high mountain valleys dipping into the low-to-mid 30s. Elsewhere across the state, lows settle into the upper 30s to upper 40s depending on location — the chilliest readings of the fall so far.
  • Sunrise Tuesday: Patchy frost possible on cars, lawns, and sheltered low spots well east of the advisory zone, though confidence on that spreading is low.

Region by Region

Western Maryland — Garrett County (Deep Creek, Oakland) is ground zero for tonight’s cold: lows near 34°, mostly clear transitioning to areas of frost, with calm to light northwest winds. This is where the Frost Advisory bites hardest — bring in any tender plants and expect a frosty windshield at Deep Creek by early Tuesday. Allegany County (Cumberland) stays a touch milder near 37°, mostly clear, light northwest winds easing overnight — patchy frost is likely in the valleys even though Cumberland proper runs a few degrees warmer than the high country.

Northern & Central Maryland — Washington County (Hagerstown) drops to around 41°, mostly clear with northwest winds 3 to 10 mph early, calming later. Frederick and Carroll counties see lows near 43°, also mostly clear with winds dropping off from the northwest. No frost advisory for this zone, but it’ll still feel like the first real bite of fall by morning.

Baltimore Metro — Baltimore City and County, Harford, Howard, and Anne Arundel counties are looking at lows around 49°, mostly clear skies, winds northwest 5 to 10 mph early before easing. A comfortable, jacket-worthy night for anyone walking the dog late or heading out for a last patio dinner of the week.

DC Suburbs — Montgomery and Prince George’s counties fall to near 44°, mostly clear, northwest winds 6 to 9 mph tapering off overnight. Cool enough for a real blanket night, especially in the outer suburbs away from the urban core.

Southern Maryland — Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties bottom out near 48°, mostly clear with a light north wind around 7 mph. Comfortable sleeping weather down here, with the Patuxent and Potomac shorelines keeping things just a touch milder than inland spots.

Upper Eastern Shore — Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, and Caroline counties see lows near 49°, clear skies, winds north 5 to 10 mph slowly backing down. The Bay keeps shore towns like Chestertown and Easton a bit more temperate than inland farm country.

Lower Eastern Shore — Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset counties fall to around 48°, clear, north winds 5 to 9 mph. Salisbury and Cambridge both looking at a genuinely crisp overnight — first real taste of fall air down here too.

Ocean City & the Coast — Worcester County stays the mildest spot on the map tonight at 53°, clear skies, and a brisker north wind around 13 mph off the water. At the beach: surf running 2 to 3 feet, water temperature holding near 70°, and the Moderate Rip Current Risk that was in effect through 8 PM this evening has expired — swimmers should still use caution with the lingering breeze-driven swell, but conditions are easing for Tuesday’s
