Calm, Warm Night Statewide — Next Front Arrives Friday Afternoon
- Western Maryland63°Overcast
- Central Maryland66°Overcast

- Southern Maryland64°Overcast
- Eastern Shore65°Overcast

Tonight is the quiet before a pattern shift. NWS Baltimore/Washington (4:56 PM update) and NWS Wakefield (3:10 PM) both describe a mild, mostly clear overnight across Maryland, with a stalling cold front bringing showers at times from Friday afternoon through the weekend. NWS Mount Holly echoes the same setup for the Eastern Shore and coast, with a wetter, cooler Sunday now looking more likely. Tonight itself, though, is about as benign as it gets — warm for the calendar, dry, with just a touch of patchy cloud drifting through.
Tonight’s Timeline
- Evening (now–10 PM): Clear to partly cloudy skies statewide, light southerly breeze, comfortable for an early-October evening. No precipitation anywhere in Maryland.
- Late night (10 PM–2 AM): Skies stay mostly clear to partly cloudy, winds light out of the south, temperatures slowly settling into the low-to-mid 60s across most of the state.
- Pre-dawn (2 AM–7 AM): Lowest temperatures of the night, with areas near the Bay and coast holding a touch milder. Still dry, still quiet — a good night to leave the windows cracked.
Region by Region
Western Maryland
Garrett County (Deep Creek/Oakland): Low near 61° under partly cloudy skies, winds light out of the southwest (3-7 mph). Calm night in the high country before Friday’s rain arrives.
Allegany County (Cumberland): After an 86° afternoon, tonight settles to around 63° with partly cloudy skies and near-calm winds. Still feels more like late summer than fall after dark.
Northern & Central Maryland
Washington County (Hagerstown): Low around 63°, partly cloudy, light south winds 2-6 mph. Dry and mild.
Frederick County: Low near 63°, partly cloudy skies, winds light out of the south. A pleasant, quiet night.
Carroll County: Shares Frederick’s numbers — low around 63°, partly cloudy, calm.
Baltimore Metro
Baltimore City & County: Low around 66°, partly cloudy, southwest winds near 6 mph. Mild and comfortable for an evening walk around the Inner Harbor.
Harford County: Tracking with the Baltimore gridpoint — low near 66°, partly cloudy, light winds.
Howard County: Same story, low near 66°, quiet skies overnight.
Anne Arundel County: Low around 66°, partly cloudy. Note the Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for minor tidal flooding — see Active Hazards below.
DC Suburbs
Montgomery County: Low around 64°, partly cloudy, light southwest winds. Another easy night.
Prince George’s County: Essentially identical, low near 64°, partly cloudy, calm.
Southern Maryland
Charles County: Low around 65°, mostly clear skies, light south winds 3-7 mph.
Calvert County: Same gridpoint — low near 65°, mostly clear, pleasant.
St. Mary’s County: Low around 65°, mostly clear. The clearest skies in the state tonight are down here.
Upper Eastern Shore
Cecil County: Tracking with the Easton gridpoint, low near 66°, partly cloudy, south winds 5-10 mph.
Kent County: Low around 66°, partly cloudy, breezy out of the south at times.
Queen Anne’s County: Same — low near 66°, partly cloudy.
Talbot County: Low near 66°, partly cloudy skies, a bit of a south breeze off the water.
Caroline County: Low around 66°, partly cloudy, calm inland.
Lower Eastern Shore
Dorchester County: Low near 67°, partly cloudy, south winds around 8 mph.
Wicomico County (Salisbury): Same gridpoint — low around 67°, partly cloudy, mild.
Somerset County: Low near 67°, partly cloudy, a touch breezy near the water.
Ocean City & the Coast
Low tonight near 67°, partly cloudy, with a brisker southwest wind around 13 mph — noticeably breezier than inland spots. Surf running 2-3 feet; the Wakefield surf forecast doesn’t spell out tonight’s rip current risk specifically, but it flags a Moderate Rip Current Risk taking hold Friday morning and lasting through Friday evening as the wind and swell shift. Water temp holding around 70°. Tide at the Ocean City Fishing Pier: low near 6 AM Friday, high around 12:33 PM Friday.
Active Hazards
Coastal Flood Advisory (Minor): In effect for Anne Arundel County. Minor tidal flooding is possible in the usual low-lying, flood-prone spots along the Bay shoreline — think low-elevation roads, docks, and waterfront parking areas. No other watches, warnings, or advisories are active anywhere in Maryland tonight.
Severe Weather & Flooding Outlook
Nothing severe expected tonight or through midday Friday. LWX’s Hazardous Weather Outlook explicitly notes no hazardous weather at this time. The next chance of unsettled weather arrives Friday afternoon into evening as a cold front approaches from the northwest — showers reach western Maryland first, then spread southeast through the evening and overnight. Poor lapse rates aloft mean thunderstorms are unlikely, and rainfall should stay under a quarter inch for most spots. No flooding concerns are expected with this round.
Heat, Humidity & Winds
Today ran warm — Cumberland and Hagerstown both logged afternoon highs in the mid-80s, and that above-normal warmth lingers into tonight’s readings as well. Humidity is creeping up ahead of Friday’s front, so expect a slightly stickier feel compared to recent nights, though nothing oppressive. Winds stay light and generally out of the south statewide tonight, strongest at the coast where Ocean City sees gusty southwest winds near 13 mph.
Chesapeake Bay & Marine
Winds remain light out of the south over the Bay tonight, with no marine hazards flagged in the Hazardous Weather Outlook. The Anne Arundel coastal flood advisory is the one item to watch for anyone near the water’s edge — minor nuisance flooding around high tide cycles, nothing widespread.

Looking Ahead
Friday: Another warm day for most of the state, though with a wide range county to county. Highs run around 85-89° for Cumberland, Hagerstown, Frederick/Carroll, and Baltimore/DC, while Garrett County’s high country stays noticeably cooler in the mid-70s (around 74°). On the Shore and coast it’s milder still — upper 70s at the beach (around 78° in Ocean City) climbing to mid-80s inland on the Shore (around 85° in Salisbury, 87° in Easton). Dry through midday, then showers develop in western Maryland by afternoon and spread southeast through the evening and overnight as the cold front moves in. Rain chances run highest west, tapering off toward the coast.
Saturday: Cooler behind the front, with highs mostly in the mid-to-upper 60s statewide. The front stalls to our south, so Saturday has a reasonable shot at staying dry for northern Maryland, while southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore carry better chances of lingering showers (Southern MD and the Shore both over 60% in the gridpoint data). A wave of low pressure riding the boundary may then push rain chances back north into Sunday, with DC suburbs and southern Maryland trending toward showers and even thunderstorms by Sunday afternoon. Details are still being sorted out, so check back as the weekend approaches.
Data: NWS Baltimore/Washington, Mount Holly & Wakefield.
