Overnight / Evening Edition
Monday, October 12, 2026
Columbus Day wraps up quietly across Maryland, and tonight is about as uneventful as October nights get. Per NWS Baltimore/Washington’s 3:01 PM AFD, high pressure and clearing skies set the stage for a mild, calm night statewide, with the Eastern Shore watching for some patchy fog toward dawn per the Mount Holly office’s 2:45 PM update. No fronts, no rain, no wind to speak of — just a pleasant lead-in to a very warm stretch of weather arriving Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tonight’s Timeline
- Early evening (now–9 PM): Clouds continue to clear west to east; light winds settle down across the state.
- Late evening (9 PM–midnight): Skies turn mostly clear to partly cloudy; temperatures fall into the 60s, then 50s inland.
- Overnight (midnight–6 AM): Calm and mild, with patchy fog developing over the Eastern Shore and near the Chesapeake, especially in low-lying and riverside spots.
- Pre-dawn Tuesday: Lowest temperatures of the night, generally in the 50s away from the fog pockets, before quick warming begins with sunrise.
Western Maryland
Garrett County (Deep Creek / Oakland): Low tonight near 52° — upper 40s to mid 50s depending on elevation. Mostly cloudy early, then patchy fog settles into the valleys after midnight; winds light out of the southwest at 3-8 mph. Grab a jacket if you’re out late near the lake — the fog can cut visibility fast on Route 219.
Allegany County (Cumberland): Low near 56°, partly cloudy, winds light from the southwest at 2-6 mph. No precipitation concerns (0% chance) — a comfortable, calm night in the Narrows.
Northern & Central Maryland
Washington County (Hagerstown): Low around 54°, partly cloudy skies, light southwest wind under 7 mph, 0% precip. A quiet, crisp valley night.
Frederick & Carroll Counties: Low near 56°, partly cloudy, winds light and variable out of the west under 5 mph. Dry — 0% chance of rain. Good sleeping weather with windows cracked.
Baltimore Metro
Baltimore City & County, Harford, Howard, Anne Arundel: Low near 57°, partly cloudy, light west winds 1-6 mph, essentially no rain chance (1%). A mild, still night across the Beltway and harbor — a nice one to leave a window open.
DC Suburbs
Montgomery & Prince George’s Counties: Low near 56°, partly cloudy, light west-to-southwest winds 2-7 mph, 0% precip. Calm and comfortable from Bethesda to Bowie.
Southern Maryland
Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s Counties: Low near 56°, mostly clear, light west winds 2-6 mph, 1% precip. One of the calmer nights of the season along the Patuxent and Potomac shorelines.
Upper Eastern Shore
Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline Counties: Low near 59°, with patchy fog expected overnight, especially near the Choptank, Chester and Sassafras rivers. Winds light and variable under 5 mph, 1% precip. If you’re driving the back roads near the water before sunrise, expect reduced visibility in spots.
Lower Eastern Shore
Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset Counties: Low near 56°, partly cloudy, light west winds 2-9 mph, 1% precip. A mild, quiet night across the lower Shore farmland and marshes.
Ocean City & the Coast
Worcester County: Low near 58°, mostly clear, northwest winds 5-9 mph, 1% precip. Tonight marks the final night of the season’s formal Beach Hazards Statement/High Rip Current Risk window, which ran through this evening — surf had been running 3 to 5 feet with water temps around 70°. Conditions ease overnight, but given the day’s rough surf, any lingering longshore current should be treated with caution if you’re out walking the beach after dark. Note from the Wakefield office: today’s surf bulletin was also the last beach forecast of the season — the next one won’t be issued until mid-May 2027.
Active Hazards
There are currently no active watches, warnings, or advisories for Maryland. The Baltimore/Washington Hazardous Weather Outlook, issued this afternoon, explicitly states no hazardous weather is expected tonight. The only item of note was today’s Beach Hazards Statement / High Rip Current Risk for Ocean City and Assateague, which was in effect from 8 AM through this evening and has now ended with sunset.
Severe Weather & Flooding
None expected tonight anywhere in Maryland. Confidence is high — high pressure is firmly in control, skies are clearing, and the atmosphere is stable. The next chance of any unsettled weather doesn’t arrive until Wednesday evening at the earliest (more below).
Winds & Bay/Marine
Winds are light across the board tonight, generally under 10 mph out of the west or southwest, dropping further after sunset. No marine headlines are posted for the Chesapeake Bay or tidal rivers — a calm night on the water. Boaters and crabbers should find favorable, low-chop conditions into Tuesday morning.
