MD WEATHER ALERTS
Overnight Edition · Tuesday, October 13, 2026
Good evening, Maryland. It’s a quiet, mild night across the state — the calm before a genuinely warm (and in some spots, record-challenging) Wednesday. Per the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office (issued 3:13 PM and 4:11 PM) and Wakefield’s office covering the southern reaches (3:23 PM), high pressure is sliding offshore tonight, clearing the way for a mid-level ridge to build in ahead of a cold front that won’t arrive until late Wednesday. Translation: get the fleece out of storage, but not tonight — you won’t need it.
Tonight’s Timeline
7–10 PM: Clear to mostly clear skies statewide, temperatures easing down from the 70s and 80s into the 60s. Light southwest breezes, nothing to write home about.
10 PM–2 AM: Lows bottoming out in most spots, skies staying clear, maybe a few high clouds sneaking in from the west ahead of tomorrow’s action.
2–6 AM: Essentially unchanged — a weak shortwave slides through per Wakefield’s discussion, but it has no discernible impact locally. Dry, mild, unremarkable in the best way.
Region by Region
Western Maryland
Garrett County (Deep Creek/Oakland): Mostly clear, light southwest wind 7–10 mph, low around 61°. Virtually no precip chance (2%) tonight — grab the firepit, it’s a good one.
Allegany County (Cumberland): Mostly clear skies, light southwest wind around 7 mph, low near 65°. Quiet and comfortable.
Northern & Central Maryland
Washington County (Hagerstown): Clear, light south wind 3–8 mph, low around 64°.
Frederick County: Mostly clear, southwest wind 3–7 mph, low near 64°.
Carroll County: Sharing Frederick’s gridpoint — mostly clear, low around 64°, light winds. A calm, pleasant night for a last bonfire before the pattern shifts later in the week.
Baltimore Metro
Baltimore City & County: Mostly clear, southwest wind around 6 mph, low near 66°.
Harford County: Same air mass — mostly clear, low in the mid 60s, light breeze.
Howard County: Mostly clear, low around 66°, calm.
Anne Arundel County: Mostly clear, low near 66°. Note: a Coastal Flood Advisory for minor tidal flooding is in effect for Anne Arundel’s shoreline communities — see hazards section below.
DC Suburbs
Montgomery County: Mostly clear, southwest wind 3–7 mph, low around 64°.
Prince George’s County: Sharing the same mild pattern — low near 64°, light wind, clear skies overhead.
Southern Maryland
Charles County: Clear, southwest wind around 7 mph, low near 64°.
Calvert County: Clear skies, low around 64°, light wind — a fine night to be out on the porch.
St. Mary’s County: Same story — clear, low mid 60s, gentle breeze off the water.
Upper Eastern Shore
Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline counties: Clear skies, south wind 5–10 mph, low around 67° — the mildest overnight low on the mainland tonight, thanks to that southerly flow off the Bay.
Lower Eastern Shore
Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset counties: Mostly clear, southwest wind around 7 mph, low near 64°. Comfortable, quiet conditions across the lower shore tonight.
Ocean City & the Coast
Worcester County: Mostly clear, southwest wind 9–13 mph, low around 65°. Beach conditions are unremarkable tonight — no rip current statement currently posted for this evening (the last active rip current alert was earlier in the week). If you’re walking the boards tonight, it’s a genuinely pleasant mid-October evening at the shore.
Active Hazards
Coastal Flood Advisory (Minor) — Anne Arundel County: Minor tidal flooding is possible in low-lying, flood-prone shoreline areas, particularly around astronomical high tide cycles. If you’ve got a waterfront driveway or dock in a spot that floods even on a good day, keep an eye on it tonight into tomorrow. No other watches, warnings, or advisories are active anywhere else in Maryland at this time — the rest of the state is hazard-free tonight.
Severe Weather & Flooding Outlook
Nothing severe tonight — that’s not until Wednesday afternoon and evening, when a cold front dropping out of the Great Lakes touches off showers and a few thunderstorms, mainly along and north of the I-66/US-50/US-48 corridor. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather has been posted for far western Maryland, where better instability and wind shear will be in place Wednesday afternoon into evening (roughly 3–8 PM), with damaging wind gusts the primary concern. Most of central and eastern Maryland should stay dry through Wednesday afternoon, with better shower/storm chances arriving after dark as the front finally clears the area. We’ll have full details in tomorrow’s forecast.
Heat, Humidity & Winds
Tonight stays comfortable — no heat or humidity concerns, with dewpoints still manageable and a light southwest flow (generally under 10 mph statewide). That changes fast tomorrow: Wednesday’s push of warm, increasingly humid air ahead of the front will make for the muggiest day of the stretch, with highs flirting with record territory south and east of DC. Tonight, though, is about as benign as October gets.
Chesapeake Bay & Marine
No marine hazards are posted for Maryland’s Bay waters tonight. Light southwest winds and a calm overnight should make for pleasant conditions on the water, aside from the minor tidal nuisance flooding flagged for Anne Arundel’s shoreline.

Looking Ahead
Wednesday is the headliner of this stretch: near-record to potentially record-breaking warmth statewide, with highs reaching the upper 80s to near 90° across southern and eastern Maryland (near the 87–89° gridpoint readings for Baltimore, Southern Maryland, and the Shore), mid-to-upper 80s inland (85–87° Hagerstown, Frederick), and mid 70s in the Garrett County highlands. Humidity climbs noticeably too. Showers and a few thunderstorms develop late afternoon into evening, mainly along and north of I-66/US-50/US-48, with a Marginal (Level 1) severe risk focused on far western Maryland for damaging wind gusts between roughly 3–8 PM. Thursday brings a sharp turnaround as a wedge of cooler air settles in behind the front — expect clouds, scattered showers (chances running 40–90% depending on location, highest west), and highs retreating into the mid-to-upper 60s, a 20-degree-plus drop from Wednesday’s peak in many spots. We’ll have the full breakdown on Friday’s stronger cold front — with gusty winds, potential thunderstorms, and a real taste of fall arriving by the weekend — in tomorrow’s forecast.
Data: NWS Baltimore/Washington, Mount Holly & Wakefield.
