MD Weather Alerts · Morning Edition

Tuesday, August 25, 2026

Good morning, Maryland. Today is the kind of late-August day you tuck away in memory for January — high pressure holds firm, skies stay mostly to fully sunny, and humidity stays tolerable statewide. Both NWS Baltimore/Washington (4:22 AM HWO, 3:34 AM AFD) and NWS Wakefield (3:09 AM AFD) agree: nothing hazardous is expected today, with a quiet transition beginning Wednesday as a southerly flow starts nudging temperatures and moisture up ahead of a much more active Thursday.

Timing at a Glance

  • Early morning: Clear to partly cloudy, comfortably cool statewide — no fog or hazard concerns.
  • Midday: Sunshine builds everywhere; light west-to-northwest breeze, generally under 10 mph.
  • Afternoon: Highs peak in the low-to-mid 80s across most of the state; western high country stays in the low 70s. Zero measurable rain chance almost everywhere.
  • Evening/overnight: Clear skies, comfortable and mild — the calm before the pattern shift. Southerly return flow begins arriving overnight into Wednesday, setting the stage for rising humidity.

Region by Region

Western Maryland

Garrett (Deep Creek/Oakland): High near 71° — genuinely crisp for late August up in the highlands. Mostly sunny, light west wind 3-7 mph, 0% rain. Lows tonight near 51°, sweater-and-porch-light weather. Allegany (Cumberland): High around 80°, mostly sunny with a light NW breeze 2-8 mph and essentially no rain chance. Lows dip to around 55° overnight.

Northern & Central Maryland

Washington County (Hagerstown): Sunny, high around 82°, winds light and westerly 2-9 mph. Frederick & Carroll: Same story — sunny, around 82°, light west winds 1-8 mph. Both areas drop to the upper 50s to low 60s tonight under mostly clear skies — great sleeping weather with windows cracked.

Baltimore Metro

Baltimore City & County, Harford, Howard, Anne Arundel: Sunny and pleasant, high around 85° — the warmest reading in the metro corridor but still a dry heat by August standards. NW winds 2-8 mph. Overnight lows near 65° under mostly clear skies. A textbook harbor-and-ballgame kind of day.

DC Suburbs

Montgomery & Prince George’s: Sunny, high around 83°, light NW wind 3-9 mph. Comfortable humidity for the Beltway in late August. Lows tonight near 63° under mostly clear skies.

Southern Maryland

Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s: Sunny skies, high around 84°, NW winds around 6 mph. A fine day on the water before humidity creeps back later in the week. Lows near 62-64° tonight, partly cloudy skies developing late.

Upper Eastern Shore

Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline: Sunny, high around 82°, winds light out of the NW at 0-5 mph. Beautiful conditions for a farm stand run or a sail on the Chester. Lows near 64° overnight, mostly clear.

Lower Eastern Shore

Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset: Sunny, high around 85°, NW wind 3-8 mph. A slight (10%) overnight shower chance lingered in the pre-dawn hours but should clear out with no measurable impact expected. Lows near 62-63° tonight.

Ocean City & the Coast

Worcester County: Sunny and pleasant with a high around 81°. Winds east around 8 mph, becoming lighter through the afternoon. Surf running 1 to 2 feet, rip current risk low, water temps in the upper 70s — a solid swimming day. UV index is high, so reapply that sunscreen. High tide at the Ocean City Fishing Pier at 6:07 AM, low tide at 12:10 PM. Lows near 67° tonight, mostly clear.

Active Hazards

No active watches, warnings, or advisories are in effect for Maryland at this time. The LWX Hazardous Weather Outlook (4:22 AM) explicitly states no hazardous weather is expected today or tonight. Enjoy the quiet — it won’t last past Wednesday night.

Severe & Flooding Outlook

Nothing severe or flood-related today or tonight. Look ahead to Thursday, when a cold front arrives with better forcing, increasing low-level moisture, and shear around 20-25 knots. NWS Baltimore/Washington notes this brings
